KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • CSK lost their fourth home game in a row
  • CSK have lost six of their eight matches
  • CSK have just four points on the board
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hit a new low as they lost their seventh match in nine outings against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday (April 25) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The results mean that with four points in nine games, the Super Kings missed the chance to upstage SRH and escape 10th place. The MS Dhoni-led side remains the wooden spoon holders as their Net Run Rate (NRR) is worse than Rajasthan Royals (RR), who have an identical record.

Can Chennai Super Kings Still Qualify For IPL 2025 Playoffs?

The results mean that Super Kings can not reach the elusive 16-point mark, which is considered a safe tally for qualification. Infact, no team in IPL history has ever missed out on the playoffs after getting 16 points in a season, which has 14 league stage matches for every team.
With five matches remaining, the five-time champions can get a maximum of 14 points. While teams have qualified with that tally in the past, it has happened just once since the tournament expanded to a 10-team tournament from the 2022 season.
With three teams already having 12 points on the board and two just behind with 10 points, it is unlikely that at least four teams will breach the 16-point tally.
While RCB qualified with 14 points last year, it was a rare situation in which four teams finished level and NRR proved the decisive factor.
In short, the Super Kings now need help from other teams to qualify and need results to go their way, even if they manage to win their remaining matches.
