RCB vs RR: Umpire's Goofs-Up On Jurel LBW, Virat Kohli's Priceless Reaction Goes Viral (Source: BCCI/IPL)
Rajasthan Royals (RR) and their love affairs with nail-biters have been extraordinary in IPL 2025. Unfortunately, the team has ended on the wrong side in all close games this year. Facing Royal Challengers Bangalore in a crucial game, RR were on course for an easy win, however, things didn't go their way.
Chasing 206, RR needed just 18 runs in the last two overs, with five wickets in hand, however, Josh Hazlewood bowled an exceptional penultimate over where he picked two wickets and gave a solitary run to turn the game in favour of RCB, who won by 11 runs.
Meanwhile, the match saw a rare moment. In the 10th over of the RR chase, Krunal Pandya dismissed Dhruv Jurel LBW; however, the batter decided to review the call. The ultraedge showed a spike as the ball passed the bat, prompting the third umpire to overturn the decision. In a hilarious turn of events, the on-field umpire made a blunder and gave Jurel out before realising his mistake and overturning the decision. Virat Kohli's reaction to the umpire's brain-fade moment went viral.
Earlier, RCB posted 205-5, courtesy of Virat Kohli's 70 and Devdutt Padikkal's 50. The defeat has pushed RR to eighth on the points table with three wins and six defeats, while RCB moved to third with their sixth win in nine games.
"We did really well with the ball. I thought it was a 210-215 wicket, we held them back really well. Halfway through our innings we were in the driver's seat. We've got ourselves to blame. Didn't show enough intent against spinners. (How much of it is mental?) It does play a part, but support staff has given us a lot of freedom and the onus is on us to go ahead and show that freedom and play freely. It's a tournament where if you make a slight mistake, you'll pay for it. We speak a lot as groups. We try to be very honest with our conversations about how everyone was feeling in different situations", said Riyan Parag, the stand-in captain.
"We've spoken about situations like this, just couldn't execute it tonight. We've got to play for pride now. There are a lot of fans who support us. There are a lot of people who work really hard for us to come out here and play in a tournament like this. Have got to do it for them. Have to be very grateful and honoured to play this game and play for this franchise and we've got to show it next time we play," he added.
