  • Both teams have four points
  • The loser will sink to 10th place
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will go head-to-head in a vital Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday (April 25) in a battle to avoid the wooden spoon. SRH and CSK are 9th and 10th in the table, respectively and only differentiated very narrowly by NRR (Net Run Rate).
Both former champions have identical records in the 2025 season so far, with four points on the board in eight games so far. CSK and SRH have played eight games each and have two victories and six defeats to show. This has left both teams with little roam for error.

Why Team Which Loses CSK-SRH IPL 2025 Will Be Virtually Knocked Out?

At the moment, both teams can get to a maximum of 16 points if they win each of their remaining six matches in the IPL. The 16-point tally is generally considered safe to qualify for the playoffs, and no team has ever got to 16 points but missed out on qualification in a season with 14 league stage matches for all teams.
However, the loser of the CSK-SRH will only be able to reach a maximum of 14 points. Since the tournament expanded to a 10-team tournament in 2022, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2024 are the only team to qualify with 14 points (7 wins on the board).
However, RCB qualified in exceptional circumstances as four teams were tied on 14 points, and their last match was against CSK, which was one of the teams on the same points tally, which gave them the chance to increase their NRR to the required scenario.

IPL 2025 table
This season, with three teams already having 12 points on the board and another two with 10 points, it is unlikely that at least four teams will not get to 16 points.
In any case, for a team to qualify on 14 points, they will need to depend on other results and need a major NRR boost; hence, both CSK and SRH cannot afford another loss.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) are already out of contention of getting to 16 points after their loss to RCB as they have two wins in nine matches and can only get to a maximum of 14 points.
