Rajasthan Royals (RR) IPL 2025 campaign is in jeopardy after five straight losses. With six defeats in nine matches, RR would need a miracle to qualify for the playoffs. The Royals have themselves to blame for their misery. They were in a great position to win at least three games, but let the games slip out of their hands.

Against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), RR needed just 18 runs in the last two overs, with five wickets in hand, but a magnificent penultimate over by Josh Hazlewood saw RR score just one run and lose two wickets, eventually losing the game by 11 runs. In earlier games against Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, respectively, RR bottled easy wins after failing to chase nine runs in the last over.

Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at RR for playing senseless cricket. He said that despite having Rahul Dravid, a great strategist and planner, at the helm, RR played unthinking cricket.

“With Rajasthan Royals, I’m actually talking about the earlier matches where I wasn’t at the ground—I just saw them. So, you're not always able to get the feeling of what’s really happening. But here, I was at the ground, and you could actually see the kind of cricket that was being played. And with someone like Rahul Dravid as the coach, it was quite baffling—it was unthinking cricket. Dravid was always so precise in his thinking, and I would’ve thought that kind of approach would’ve seeped into some of the Rajasthan batters," Gavaskar said while speaking to Star Sports.

"Where is the thought process there? You can’t expect inexperienced players to always get it right, but still... It’s just a different kind of cricket,” he added.

The series of defeats has pushed RR to the eighth position in the IPL points table, and the team would need no less than a miracle to get into the playoffs.
