It's no secret that Yuvraj Singh played a significant role in shaping the career of Abhishek Sharma. The SRH powerhouse gave a glimpse of his tremendous talent during IPL 2024, where he scored 484 runs, with three fifties, but at a strike rate of over 200. The destructive display paved the way for Abhishek's India T20 debut. He played 17 matches for the national team, scoring two hundreds and as many fifties. After a string of low scores in IPL 2025, Abhishek roared back to form and blasted a brutal 141 in 55 balls against PBKS.

The youngster has never shied away from mentioning Yuvraj Singh's role in his rise as a top cricketer, and the former India cricketer has also been very appreciative of the 24-year-old.

Yograj Singh, father of Yuvraj, in a recent interview, gave a glimpse of how Yuvraj found out about Abhishek and mentored him to become a top India cricketer. Yograj revealed Yuvraj noticed Abhishek's performance in age-group cricket in Punjab, and immediately asked for his stats from the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA). To his surprise, the PCA had mentioned Sharma as a bowler.

“When we asked about a list of Abhishek Sharma’s performances from the PCA and the coaches. Do you know what they said? Sir, he is a bowler. He bowls. Yuvi said, ‘You just look at his performance records.’ So, when we saw the record, Abhishek already had 24 hundreds. Yuvi said, ‘Why are you giving wrong information? Why? This man has made 24 centuries’. This was six or seven years ago," Yograj Singh told Cricket Next.

“And when Yuvi sent that record to me, he said, ‘Papa, look at this player.’ I said, Look, this is all about sharing the information. This is the problem: some people want to finish the player out of jealousy instead of making their own career,” Yograj added.

Being a top cricketer requires immense discipline and Yuvraj worked on that aspect of Abhishek by setting clear guidelines. Yograj revealed that Yuvraj stopped Abhishek from late-night parties and meeting his girlfriend.

"Late night parties... girlfriend. What happened then? Yuvraj said, ‘Lock him. ’ He came under Yuvraj Singh's wings as his father couldn't handle him. Yuvi shouted, 'Where are you?'. I heard him shout. 'It's 9 pm, go to bed. Do you understand me? I am coming.' He then handed over the phone and went to bed. Yuvi then told his father to wake him up at 5 am," he said.
