Chennai Super Kings (CSK) suffered their sixth defeat of IPL 2025 and remained at the last spot in the points table. The Yellow Army has only managed 2 wins from 8 matches so far. CSK don't have their destiny in their own hands and they will need the results of other matches to go their way even if they win the rest of their matches.
CSK's stand-in captain, MS Dhoni, made a huge 'next year' comment after CSK lost to Mumbai Indians (MI). The five-time IPL-winning said that it will be important for CSK to get the combination right for next year.
"I think what we need to realise is that we are successful because we play good cricket. At the same time, if you're not playing good cricket, it’s important not to get emotional. There have been instances — I think 2020 was not great for us — but we need to see whether we are playing the right form of cricket, whether we are applying ourselves," Dhoni said.
"With all the games in front of us that we are supposed to win, we’ll just take it one game at a time. If we lose a few, what will be important for us is to get the right combination for next year. We don’t want too many players getting changed. So I think what will be important is to try and qualify, but if not, you know, get a secured XI for next year and come back strong."
Dhoni is leading CSK in Ruturaj Gaikwad's absence. The CSK opener was ruled out of the season due to an elbow injury. CSK's batting has lacked the firepower and it has cost them big time. MI, who chased down 177 in just 15.4 overs, are at the 6th spot. Gujarat Titans acquire the numero uno position in the points table.
