  • Australia beat India 3-1 in the five-match series
The star-studded Australian bowling attack proved too hot to handle for the Indian team during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the Pat Cummins-led team ended India's dominance and won the prestigious trophy after a decade with a 3-1 series victory.
While Jasprit Bumrah won the Player of the Series (POTS) award for one of the greates individual display in a Test series with 32 wickets in five matches, it was the collective brilliance of the Australian pace attack that helped the hosts get the better of India, whose batting order looked out of sorts for most parts of the series.
While the trio of Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood have been the world's best pace-bowling unit for a long time, they are given able support by Nathan Lyon, who is among the greatest off-spinners in cricket history. However, Rohit Sharma named Scott Boland as the bowler, who was the toughest to face from the Australian side.
Rohit revealed that the Indian team even checked Boland's pitch map to figure out a way to get runs off him and praised his accuracy. The Indian captain explained that the veteran pacer's angle makes it difficult to play him.
"Scott Boland was the toughest to face. We checked his pitch map. We wanted to see where we can score runs off him. 90% of it was there and there about it. No width. No full balls. It is because of the angle. He comes with a straight run-up, jumps wider, and hits the seam like this," said Rohit on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast with former Australian skipper Michael Clarke.
Boland played three matches in the BGT in Hazlewood's absence and took 21 wickets. Despite being on the bench for two games, he finished as the third-highest wicket-taker in the series. Boland particularly troubled Virat Kohli as he dismissed the modern-day legend four times in five innings.
Boland, who made his debut for Australia in Test cricket at the age of 32 in 2021, has played 13 Test matches and taken 56 wickets a stunning bowling average of 17.66.
During the same interaction, Rohit and Clarke backed Boland to have a big impact in the 2025-26 Ashes series against England.
