  • RR are chasing a total of 189
Rajasthan Royals were hit with a big blow during their 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) as the quick-fire opening partnership between Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal came to an abrupt end despite the home team bowlers struggling to contain both batters.
RR skipper Samson, who was looking in fine touch and made 31 runs in just 19 balls, walked off the field in the sixth over of the match. After hitting the first two balls of the innings for a four and six, the RR skipper injured himself while trying to play a delivery down the off-side from Vipraj Nigam.
Samson was visibly in pain and suffering from an injury on the rib cage.. While he attempted to continue his innings, he was unable to continue and walked off after facing another delivery.

Can Sanju Samson Return To Bat?

The good news for RR is that Samson can return to bat as he has been declared 'retired hurt' and not 'retired out.' For those unversed, if a team decides to ask a batter to return to the field due to a tactical reason like Tilak Varma (vs LSG) and Devon Conway (vs PBKS) earlier this season, a player is given 'retired out' and his innings end there giving the team no chance to allow him to return to bat
However, if a player leaves the field due to a medical issue, he is declared 'retired hurt' and allows him the chance to return to the crease later in the innings after the fall of any wicket.
As Samson fielded the entire 20 overs, there is no time restriction on him and he can walk out to bat at any point in the innings.
RR are chasing a total of 189, and the opening pair of Jaiswal and Samson put up 61 runs in 33 balls.
