Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are currently taking on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2025 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. MS Dhoni returns as the captain of the CSK after 683 days. This was after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament owing to an elbow fracture, and the five-time IPL winning captain was declared the leader of the franchise for the remainder of IPL 2025.

After the toss, when KKR won the toss and elected to bowl first, MS Dhoni opened up for the first time since being declared as the new CSK captain. He said that they were looking to bat first, as they have not had much luck in chasing targets in the IPL 2025.

"We were looking to bat first. Quite a few occasions where we tried to chase it down, and what we realised is that the wicket slows down a bit, so if you don't get a good start, then the middle order comes under pressure," Dhoni said.

MS Dhoni also declared that CSK will miss a player of the calibre of the Ruturaj Gaikwad because of his ability to fit into any role as a batter.

"Not nice to miss a player like him, he can play different roles , he can launch and score big score and can maintain a good strike rate. We will miss him but can't do anything,"
