Harry Brook On 2-Year IPL Ban: 'Losing A Little Money Here And There, I’d Take That Any Day...' (Source: BCCI/IPL)
England white-ball captain Harry Brook broke the silence on his two-year ban from the Indian Premier League (IPL). Brook was picked by Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2025 auction, but he pulled out of the T20 league right before the start of the tournament.
Ahead of the IPL 2025, the governing council had made it clear to the players that they would risk facing bans if they pull out of the tournament at the last minute. This was the second consecutive year that Brook pulled out of the IPL before the tournament.
Brook, who was recently named England captain, following Jos Buttler's decision to step down, cited his commitment towards playing cricket for England as the main reason for his decision to pull out. On being banned from IPL, Brook said he hasn't been informed by the BCCI, but if they do ban him, he will accept it because that's well within the rules.
“They haven’t told me. But if I do get banned, fair play. That’s the rules they put in place, but I’m completely committed to playing cricket for England,” Brook told reporters.
“So, to lose a little bit of money here and there, I’d take that any day to play for England. I won’t be playing any franchise cricket in the near future, and I’ll be prioritising England and whatever games we have with them,” he added.
Brook said that pulling out of IPL was not an easy decision but he had to take the call given the amount of cricket that's lined up for England. Brook also confirmed he won't be playing any franchise cricket anytime soon.
“Having this period after deciding to pull out of the IPL was the right decision for me. It wasn't an easy decision, obviously, but I've got to try and manage my workload. I've played a hell of a lot of cricket over the last year and a half and it's only going to be more going forward," said Brook.
“I'm not sure how much franchise cricket I'll be playing in the near future, but my priority is definitely playing for England and trying to play as much cricket for England as I can," he added.
