MS Dhoni has had a forgettable run in IPL 2025 so far and he has yet to win a game for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He continues to retain his place in the playing XI but hasn't been able to do the job for the Yellow Army. Despite his struggles, Dhoni has hardly lost his temper and he remains calm on the field.
Known as Captain Cool during his captaincy days, Dhoni doesn't show his emotions on the field. But in 2019, the star India player got angry and stormed onto the field to confront an umpire during a game between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals.
Dhoni, who was CSK's captain back then, entered the playing area to confront an umpire over a no-ball call. Virender Sehwag seemed to be upset with Dhoni's act and asked the IPL to ban him for 2-3 games. Dhoni was fined 50 percent of his match fee.
"Had he done this for the Indian team, I would have been happy. I have never seen him so angry during his captaincy days for the Indian team. So I feel he became a little too emotional for the Chennai team,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz in 2019.
“So I feel Dhoni was let off easy and should have been banned for at least 2-3 games. Because if he did this, tomorrow another captain can do the same. Then what is the value of an umpire? I feel he should have been banned for a few games by IPL to set an example. He should have stayed outside and instead have talked to the fourth umpire with the walkie-talkie.”
Dhoni got angry due to an on-field confusion over the no-ball. The umpire at the bowler's end called it a no-ball while the leg umpire didn't think so. The third umpire adjudged it a no-ball. In the end, it was deemed a legal delivery. CSK won the game by 4 wickets.
