Sanju Samson Guilty Of Breaching IPL Code Of Conduct; Loses 24 Lakh After BCCI Takes Strong Action (Source: BCCI/IPL)

Rajasthan Royals (RR) suffered a crushing 58-run defeat to the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 23rd match of the IPL 2025. This was the team's third defeat this season, as they slipped to seventh on the points table. Not a lot went right for RR in the match as the team ended up conceding 217-6 in 20 overs before getting bowled out for a mere 159.
To make matters worse, the team failed to finish their overs in time, and captain Sanju Samson was fined INR 24 lakh for slow over-rate. This was the second instance of RR being penalised for slow over-rate. Earlier, RR failed to finish their overs in time against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and their stand-in captain Riyan Parag was fined INR 12 lakh. Parag led the team in the first three games as Samson played as an impact player due to injury. The IPL media release confirmed that the remaining members of the playing XI will be fined 25 percent of their match fee or six lakh, whichever is less.
"The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, will be fined either INR six lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," an IPL media release read.

Will Sanju Samson Be Banned?

Earlier, if a captain is fined for a slow over-rate on three occasions, he was handed a one-match suspension. In the first game of IPL 2025, Hardik Pandya did not play for MI for the same reason as he was banned for the match after being penalised for a slow over rate in MI's last game in IPL 2024, however, ahead of IPL 2025, BCCI made big changes and scrapped the rule. So, Samson will escape the ban even if he faces another slow over-rate penalty.
