KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • RCB beat MI by 12 runs
  • RCB have won all away games under Rajat Patidar's captaincy
  • Rajat Patidar replaced Faf du Plessis as RCB captain
Rajat Patidar etched his name in the history books as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs at the Wankhede Stadium as the Bengaluru-based franchise continued their unbeaten run away from home in the 2025 Indian Premier League.
RCB have so far played three away games and won all of them with victories over the league's three most successful sides in history. The Patidar-led side started the season with victories over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Eden Gardens in Chepauk before conquering the Wankhede Stadium
Ironically, RCB's sole defeat of the season has come in their only home match against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Rajat Patidar Leads RCB To Rare Hat-Trick

Patidar etched his name in the history books by leading RCB to the rare hat-trick of beating CSK, KKR, and MI away from home in the same season. This feat has been achieved only once when Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) did the treble in the 2012 season.
The Punjab-based outfit had won by close margins of two and seven runs in Kolkata and Chennai before winning a last-over thriller in Mumbai by six wickets with three balls to spare. The victory against KKR came under Adam Gilchrist's captaincy while he was injured for the away fixtures against MI and CSK, where David Hussey led the team. This makes Patidar the first captain in history to achieve the rare treble in the same season.
Over the years, many teams have won two of the three fixtures, but none apart from RCB and Kings XI have managed the hat-trick in the same year.
It is worth noting that MI, CSK, and KKR are not just the team with the most trophies in the league's history but also have the most victories at a single venue.
RCB had the chance to complete the unique feat in the inaugural season in 2008 after winning away fixtures against MI and CSK but lost to KKR at the Eden Gardens by just five runs.
The victory over MI was RCB's first at the Wankhede Stadium over the five-time champions since 2015, and it ended a six-match losing streak.
Previously, they defeated CSK at Chepauk for the first time in 17 years after losing eight times in a row at the venue. The win over KKR was also their first win against defending champions in the City of Joy since 2019.
Patidar has won the Player of the Match (POTM) in the wins away to CSK and MI. The 31-year-old is leading RCB for the first time in 2025 after replacing Faf du Plessis as captain.
