CSK Coach Drops Massive Remark On MS Dhoni's Retirement Rumours: 'He's Still Going Strong' (Source: BCCI/IPL)

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coach Stephen Fleming broke silence on MS Dhoni's retirement and said it is not his job to put an end to MS Dhoni's career. Dhoni has drawn flak for his poor returns in IPL 2025. He is arguably the greatest player to play IPL, however, he has been a letdown with the bat in IPL 2025. As CSK suffered its third consecutive defeat in IPL 2025 to Delhi Capitals (DC), with Dhoni scoring 30 in 26 balls, the debate about his retirement gained steam.
There were speculations that Dhoni might announce his retirement at the MA Chidambaram Stadium following the game against DC. The rumours peaked after his parents were spotted at the venue during the game, however, there was no official update on Dhoni's status.
During the post-match press conference, CSK coach Fleming was asked about Dhoni's possible retirement. He replied, “No, that's not my role to put an end to it. I have no idea. I'm just enjoying working with him. He's still going strong. I don't even ask these days. You are the ones who ask.”
Speculations about Dhoni's retirement have been doing rounds for the last few years. Having led CSK to an IPL win in 2023, it was expected that Dhoni would draw curtains on his career, however, he decided to come and play in IPL 2024. Dhoni stepped down as captain and batted way down the order, only playing a handful of balls and scoring as many runs as possible. The captaincy step down was a big hint that Dhoni might finally hang his boosts, but he decided to return again, much to the delight of his fans, however, IPL 2025 has been a struggle for him as he hasn't been able to play those quick cameos, resulting in CSK not getting strong finishes. He has been stunning behind the wickets, but lack of runs with the bat has raised questions about his place in the side, especially when CSK suffered a hattrick of defeats.
