'Glenn Maxwell Is Halley’s Comet Of Cricket': Manjrekar's Brutal Dig At PBKS Star (Source: BCCI/IPl)
Glenn Maxwell - the big show, often hailed as one of the biggest match-winners in limited-overs cricket- hasn't been a huge hit in IPL. His popularity and ability has earned him multiple IPL contracts, but he has never really played a tournament-winning campaign with the bat. Consistency has been a major worry for Glenn Maxwell, and it remains an issue in IPL 2025. Maxwell was released by RCB after a below-par IPL 2024, and PBKS were quick to get the destructive hitter in the squad. However, Maxwell hasn't set the stage on fire in IPL 2025, scoring 37 runs in three innings.
Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar lashed out at Maxwell for his poor performances and made an astronomical remark about his inconsistency in the league. Manjrekar said that Maxwell is like Halley's Comet who performs once in 75 innings.
“Halley's Comet orbits the sun and is visible from Earth once every 75 years. Just like that, Glenn Maxwell plays one good match in 75 games. It was last seen in 1986, and it will now be spotted in 2061. It's the same case with Maxwell in batting. Glenn Maxwell is Halley’s Comet of Cricket," Manjrekar said on Jiohotstar.
Meanwhile, PBKS suffered their first defeat of IPL 2025 after they lost to RR by 50 runs. RR batted first and posted a strong total of 205-4, with Yashasvi Jaiswal making 67 and Riyan Parag scoring 43. PBKS, in their reply, could only score 155-9, with Nehal Wadhera making 62 in 41 balls. Maxwell had a chance to pull off a stunning win for the team but he was out for 30 in 21 balls when the team needed 75 in the last five overs.
