Mumbai Indians (MI) were without the services of Rohit Sharma when they squared off against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the all-important game on Friday (April 4). Speaking at the toss, MI captain Hardik Pandya revealed that Rohit wasn't fit to play due to a blow on the knee during practice. The former MI captain played the first three matches as an Impact Player.
Will Jacks opened the innings with Ryan Rickelton in Rohit's absence. Speaking to the media after the game, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene provided a huge update on Rohit and revealed that he did a fitness test and he wasn't 100% fit during that.
"Rohit got a hit on his knee just in the IT band and he tried to bat yesterday, couldn't put any weight on it so again he came and did a fitness test early today to try and it was discomfort for him to bat, put weight on that so he felt that it wasn't 100% for him to play this game so that's why we precautioned. We thought give him a few more days to try and get through that unfortunate what happened in the nets," he said.
Rohit has struggled in the ongoing season and has managed scores of 0, 8 and 13. MI will hope that he gets for their next game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Monday (April 7).
MI suffered their third defeat
Mumbai Indians suffered their third defeat of the season on Friday (April 4). They kicked off their campaign with a four-wicket defeat against Chennai Super Kings. They suffered their second defeat of the season against Gujarat Titans.
MI ended their winless run against Kolkata Knight Riders and registered a big 8-wicket win at the Wankhede Stadium. They will host RCB in their next game.
