Indian fast bowler Akash Deep struck in his very first over against the Mumbai Indians while making a comeback for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2025. He picked Will Jacks in the second over of the game. Will Jacks was opening with Ryan Rickelton in Rohit Sharma's absence. In the fourth ball of the over, Jacks got caught by Ravi Bisnoi in the deep square leg.
After missing the first three games due to a back injury, Akash Deep made his debut for LSG in the home game. Akash Deep was last seen in action while playing for India in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Melbourne against Australia in December 2024. He hasn't played any competitive cricket since then, and was rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Akash Deep has played only eight games in his first three IPL seasons with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. His IPL numbers are not that impressive, but he got the selectors' eye during his domestic season of 2023-24. He made his International debut in whites against England in February 2024. Soon, he became one of the prime fast bowlers in the longer format of the game. He was in the squad for the Australia tour 2024-25, but unfortunately got injured after the first test. His performance at the International level helped him in the auction as he was signed by LSG for INR 8 crore.
Mumbai Indians were playing without their most experienced opener, Rohit Sharma, as he picked up a Knee during before the game. 22-year-old youngster Raj Angad Bawa came as a replacement for Rohit Sharma, and Will Jacks was opening in the inning with Ryan Rickelton, but Akash Deep didn't let him make up the shortfall.
