The Mumbai Indians' horror run of form away from home continued as they lost their third match on the road in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) after suffering a 12-run defeat to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Friday (April 4).
Hardik was the star of the show for MI with the ball after he won the toss and chose to bowl first. The MI skipper took a five-wicket haul and became the first captain in the league's history to achieve the milestone. Despite Hardik's brilliance, LSG posted 207 on the board.
In reply, MI lost their openers early, but quick-fire knocks by Naman Dhir and Suryakumar Yadav kept MI alive. However, Tilak Varma had a rare off day and struggled to up the ante. MI took a stunning call to 'retire out' the star with seven balls to spare and sent Mitchell Santner to join Hardik in the middle.
Santner scored two runs on his first delivery at the crease, which was the last ball of the 19th over. Hardik hit a six on the first ball of the last over but failed to get another maximum. On the third and fourth deliveries, he denied Santner a single and kept strike.
MI owner Akash Ambani was visibly unhappy at Hardik's decision not to take the run and reduce the margin.

Hardik has led MI in 17 matches so far and has just five wins to show.
