Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are squaring off in the 15th match of IPL 2025 at the Eden Gardens. Both teams added a spinner in their playing XI due to the spinning track which is being used for the game. SRH brought in Kamindu Mendis, an all-rounder from Sri Lanka. Mendis has played all three formats for his country.
Mendis made his SL debut in a T20I back in 2018. His ODI debut came a year later. Mendis made his Test debut against Australia in 2022. The 26-year-old has 1184 runs and 3 wickets in 12 Tests.
Mendis has 353 runs and 2 wickets in 19 ODIs. He has scored 381 runs and scalped 2 wickets in 23 T20Is. The batting all-rounder has 5 centuries in 21 Test innings.
Kamindu Mendis IPL debut
Kamindu Mendis made his much-awaited IPL debut on Thursday (April 3). He scalped Angkrish Raghuvanshi's wicket in the first over of his IPL debut. The KKR batsman departed for 50 off 32 balls. Kamindu joined SRH for Rs 75 lakh.
He is an ambidextrous bowler i.e. he can bowl with both arms. Mendis bowled left-arm spin to right-handed batsman and right-arm spin to the left-arm batsmen in his first over. Kamindu can also bat well and SRH will have high hopes from him.
SRH opt to bowl first
SRH won the toss and opted to bowl first. They removed KKR's openers, Quinton de Kock and Sunil Narine in the first three overs. KKR captain, Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish rescued the home team by adding 81 runs for the third wicket. Rahane departed for 38 while Angkrish scored a half-century.
Both teams have managed to win a game from 3 matches they have played. KKR, who won the IPL 2024 trophy, are reeling at the last spot in the points table.
