In a move that shocked the cricketing world, star India opener decided to leave Mumbai and move to Goa in domestic cricket. The 23-year-old has sought a No Objection Certificate from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) in order for the switch to happen. Jaiswal has himself stated that he has moved to Goa because he has gotten a leadership opportunity at Goa. However, it seems that the young left-handed batter has made the much-talked-about switch due to a fallout with the Mumbai team management, including captain Ajinkya Rahane.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ajinkya Rahane Had Problems For Two Years
According to a report by India Today, Ajinkya Rahane was not happy with the constant scrutiny on him in the Mumbai camp since 2022. In the Duleep Trophy 2022, West Zone captain Rahane and ordered Jaiswal to leave the field against South Zone due to disciplinary reasons. The 23-year-old was constantly abusing Ravi Teja, and Rahane felt he was crossing the line.
During the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy two seasons ago, Yashasvi Jaiswal was constantly questioned for his shot selection by the Mumbai team management which the opener felt was completely unjust.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Kicked Ajinkya Rahane's Kitbag In Frustration
The last straw for Yashasvi Jaiswal came during the recent Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Jammu and Kashmir, which also featured Rohit Sharma. J&K sealed a historic win over Mumbai in that match.
After the match Mumbai coach Omkar Salvi and captain Ajinkya Rahane questioned Yashasvi Jaiswa's commitment, which left the 23-year-old fuming. He even kicked Rahane's kitbag in frustration.
Mumbai chief selector Sanjay Patil blamed the international players for Mumbai's poor show in the Ranji Trophy this season. This statement also made Jaiswal feel that he was being targeted indirectly.
Yashasvi Jaiswal Explains Why He Switched To Goa
In an interaction with The Indian Express, Yashasvi Jaiswal stated that it was a very tough decision for him to leave Mumbai. He also said that he would always remain indebted to MCA because it was in Mumbai that he made his cricketing career.
However, Jaiswal said that Goa offered him to become their captain in domestic cricket. This opportunity tempted him to move to a new home in domestic cricket.
“It was a very tough decision for me. Whatever I am today is because of Mumbai. The city has made me who I am, and all my life, I will be indebted to the MCA,” Jaiswal said.
"Goa has thrown me a new opportunity and it has offered me a leadership role. My first goal will be to do well for India, and whenever I’m not on national duty, I will be playing for Goa and try to make them go deep into the tournament. This was an (important) opportunity which came my way and I just took it," the star opener added.
