Pakistan cricket's torrid run in international cricket has drawn harsh criticism from its former cricketers. Not only did the 1992 World Cup winners fail to win a single match in the Champions Trophy at home, but also put up a dismal performance in the white-ball series in New Zealand. For the Kiwi tour, Pakistan included several fresh faces, with Salman Ali Agha as the captain, but it did not yield positive results.
Former Pakistan cricketers expressed their disappointment after yet another meek defeat in the second ODI.
"Pakistan team has betrayed us. I don't know what era of cricket we are playing. Pakistan made a strong comeback after Mitchell's dismissal but poor captaincy. This is not a Pakistan team; that's all I can say," said Basit Ali on his YouTube channel.
Another former cricketer, Bazid Khan, stated that Pakistan cricket has fallen behind India and Australia after recent struggles.
"We feel entitled as if we should be winning World Cups regularly. But how many have we actually won?" Bazid asked.
"You are not on Australia's level, not on India's level," he stated. "We still cling to the notion that 'we've won ICC tournaments, so we are a top team.' But unfortunately, that's not the reality anymore," he was quoted as saying by Express Tribune.
"Pakistan cricket has no legs to stand," said former wicketkeeper Rashid Latif in a scathing assessment on YouTube.
With the ODI series already locked and sealed in favour of New Zealand, Pakistan will now look to end the three-match affair positively, set to be played at Bay Oval on Saturday.
