A 26-year-old wicketkeeper batter considered a rising star in his initial days faced severe setbacks in 2024. He was removed from the BCCI central contract list for skipping domestic cricket. Ishan returned from South Africa before the start of the Test series and made his on-field return in IPL 2024.
With an aim to make his India comeback, the southpaw appeared in domestic cricket. The wicketkeeper-batsman has been in form since his return and he sent a message to the selectors with a quick century on his debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad. As Ishan eyes a comeback in Team India, here we have a look at 3 reasons why he should regain his central contract -
Impressive Numbers In All Three Formats
Ishan Kishan is a consistent performer with the bat, he has featured in 2 Tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is. T20I is the only setup where he averages under 30. He has scored 933 runs at 42.40 in ODIs. His T20I numbers are decent, where he has scored 796 runs at 25.67 with the help of six fifty-plus scores.
He has a double ton in ODIs and has proven his mettle in white-ball cricket. A batsman like him is a boon for Indian cricket and he deserves to regain his central contract.
Domestic Appearance
The primary reason behind Ishan losing his central contract was his decision to skip domestic cricket. He participated in the 2024-25 domestic season and also captained Jharkhand. He averaged 45.14 in seven games and hit a century. Since Ishan appeared in domestic cricket, he deserves to regain his contract.
India Yet To Ink On Wicketkeeper For T20 World Cup
Rishabh Pant hasn't quite performed in the chances he has been given in T20Is while Sanju Samson's form is always a concern. He flopped in the T20I series against England and only managed to score 51 runs in 5 matches.
With India's prime wicketkeepers not performing well, Ishan is in the race and he getting added to the central contract list will motivate him to do well and make a comeback.
