Eden Gardens pitch curator Sujan Mukherjee's straightforward refusal to Ajinkya Rahane's request of preparing spin friendly wickets has not gone down too well with cricket experts. Following the KKR vs RCB match, Rahane said he would love to see a spin-friendly surface at the Eden Gardens, which would suit his team's strength. However, Mukherjee bluntly denied catering any such requests, saying that the pitch will not change till he is in charge.

Cricket expert Harsha Bhogle wasn't pleased with Mujerjeee's statement and said he would've been very disappointed if he was in the KKR team after the pitch curator's remark. Bhogle said Rahane didn't ask the curator to make a 120 pitch, but it's legitimate to ask for a pitch that suits the home team's strength.

" If I'm in the KKR camp, I'm extremely unhappy of what he said because I'm not asking for a 120 surface. I'm just saying, give me a surface where my bowlers can win matches. To say, 'sorry, we don't prepare pitches like that...' No. We are not asking you to make a 120 pitch, we are not asking you to make a 240 pitch. But I think home advantage in a tournament like IPL is absolutely legitimate. That will enhance the tournament because winning away becomes crucial then," Bhogle said in a Cricbuzz show.

Simon Doull also lashed out at the curator and said that KKR should move their base out of Eden Gardens if the curator is not willing to give what the home team wants, adding that he is not paid to give his opinions. “If he is not taking heed of what the home team wants, then just move your franchise away to somewhere else. His job is not to pass opinion on a game. That’s not what he’s getting paid for,” Doull said.

Meanwhile, KKR lost the first game to RCB, however, they bounced back strong and defeated Rajasthan Royals in the second game.
