The IPL 2025 season kicked off with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeating defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 22. Batsmen have dominated the proceedings in the tournament so far while the bowlers have struggled. For the first time, the score of 300 looks set to be breached in the T20 league.
The fans have picked their favourites at the start of IPL while many cricket experts have also made their picks. Irfan Pathan has also made his pick and named 4 teams which he thinks will qualify for the playoffs of IPL 2025.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the former India all-rounder picked Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Delhi Capitals (DC).
CSK and RCB kicked off their IPL 2025 journey with a win while MI and DC lost their first match of the tournament. CSK, MI and DC failed to qualify for the second round of the previous season. RCB made it to the next round after a win over CSK in their last league stage game of the season.
Irfan Pathan dropped from IPL commentary panel
Irfan Pathan isn't part of the IPL 2025 commentary panel. “Pathan had a fallout with a couple of players a few years ago. Since then, he has not shied away from referring to them aggressively. The matter was raised that other junior players got caught in the crossfire. He has been accused of taking potshots at them on social media platforms even if he didn’t name them," sources were quoted as saying by TOI.
Pathan took up commentary even before retiring from international cricket and he was a regular in IPL. Before Irfan, the likes of Harsha Bhogle and Sanjay Manjrekar were also dropped from the commentary panel. Both the notable commentators made their returns a few years later.
