KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Tim Seifert set a massive world record
- Seifert upstaged Travis Head in an elite list
- New Zealand won the series 4-1
Tim Seifert etched his name in the history books during the fifth T20 against Pakistan on Wednesday (March 26) at the Sky Stadium in Wellington as New Zealand thumped the Salman Ali Agha-led side by nine wickets to seal a 4-1 series win in the five-match series despite the absence of several key players, who are playing in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) currently.
In the last match of the series, the Pakistan batting unit failed again and was bowled out for just 128 runs despite a fighting knock of 51 in 39 balls by skipper Agha. The home team completed a nine-wicket win after chasing down the total in just 10 overs, marking the joint quickest run-chase of more than 130 runs against a Test-playing nation in T20I cricket. The record is also held by the Black Caps, who chased down a total of 147 in 10 overs against Sri Lanka in 2016 at the Eden Park in Auckland.
Tim Seifert Creates History
Seifert was the star of the show for New Zealand in their win at Wellington with a stunning unbeaten knock of 97 in 38 balls at a strike rate of 255.26, which included six boundaries and 10 sixes. This is only the second instance of 10 sixes being hit in a T20I innings, which was not a century.
Seifert's knock is the quickest 90+ score in a run-chase in T20I history by or against a full member nation team. No player has ever hit a score of more than 90 while batting second at a strike rate of more than 250 before. In fact, Travis Head's 80 runs of 25 balls against Scotland is the only other instance of a player scoring 80 or more runs at a strike rate of more than 250 among full-member nation players while chasing a total. Tristan Stubbs's 28-ball 72 is the second-highest score with a 250+ strike rate in a run chase by any player against a Test-playing nation.
