Rajasthan Royals SWOT Analysis. (BCCI)
Rajasthan Royals, or RR as they are widely known, have assembled a squad that's strong with explosive batters, multi-skilled all-rounders and a bowling attack that could intimidate anyone. But every team has its highs and lows, so let's deep dive into a Rajasthan Royals IPL 2025 campaign, analysing their strengths and weaknesses.
Strengths: RR boasts a blazing top-order lineup—nothing less than pure dynamite. Their captain, Sanju Samson, is a rock-solid performer who can anchor or accelerate as needed. Along with him is Yashaswi Jaiswal, a young gun with an attacking mindset who can shred bowlers in the power play. Together, Samson and Jaiswal form a solid left-and-right opening pair. And now they have Nitish Rana as well, who can slot in at number three and provide stability.
Simran Hetmeyer rounds out this trio, bringing serious hitting power to the middle overs. The West Indian has been around for a while now and is definitely a key member of the team. His responsibility to finish games will mostly lie on his shoulders. But then again, Dhruv Jurel has also shown the ability to thrive under pressure and hit those big shots. What also sets RR apart is their all-around depth. Riyan Parag can contribute with bat and ball, adding flexibility to the lineup.
Among international stars, Wanis Hasaranga and Mahesh Thikshana offer elite spin bowling and are capable of scoring crucial runs down the order. Nitish Rana and Akash Madhwal further enhance this balance, giving RR a squad ready for any challenge.
Weaknesses: One noticeable factor is that Rajasthan is leaning too much on the trio of Samson, Jaiswal, and Hetmyer for runs. If these key players have an off day, the team could struggle to put on a fighting total. The middle and lower orders haven't always been delivered consistently, which might expose RR if the top order collapses early.
Opportunities: RR let go of Chahal and Ashwin, but then they were able to secure the services of the Sri Lankan spin duo of Vanindu Hasaranga and Mahesh Dixana, both of whom are reliable wicket-takers. Both of these bowlers have many variations and can provide crucial breakthroughs. While Hasaranga and Thikshana are fantastic, RR's spin department also lacks a dependable Indian backup. This could be a weak link on pitches that turn sharply if the overseas spinner faltered. A stronger local spinner would add much-needed depth.
Threats: Rajasthan Royals' most expensive buy in the mega auction was Jofra Archer. He will definitely be a key member of their pace bowling attack. Although injuries have plagued him in recent years, let's not forget that if Archer is fit and available, he can be a game-changer. His raw pace and knack for early wickets can disrupt any batting side.
