The IPL 2025 season is just a week away and all 10 teams have confirmed their captains. Delhi Capitals (DC) were the last team to announce their captain. As many as 5 IPL teams have new captains while the other teams have retained their leaders. Shreyas Iyer, who captained Kolkata Knight Riders to a title win in IPL 2024, will lead Punjab Kings in the upcoming season.
Rishabh Pant, who once looked set to play for Delhi Capitals till his retirement, will lead Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2025. As the fans wait for the start of the 18th IPL season, here we meet all 10 IPL 2025 captains -
Lucknow Super Giants
Rishabh Pant will lead Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025. He joined the Lucknow-based franchise for Rs 27 crore in the IPL 2025 mega-auction. He takes over from KL Rahul, who is now part of Delhi Capitals (DC). Rishabh captained DC in IPL 2021, 2022 and 2024.
Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings (PBKS) will once again have a new captain in Shreyas Iyer. Iyer captained Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a title win in IPL 2024 but the franchise didn't retain him. Iyer will once again work with head coach Ricky Ponting - they worked together at DC for few seasons - at PBKS.
Chennai Super Kings
Ruturaj Gaikwad will continue as the captain of Chennai Super Kings. He took over the top job before IPL 2024. MS Dhoni will play another season for the Yellow Army.
Delhi Capitals
Axar Patel has taken over as the captain of Delhi Capitals (DC). The star India all-rounder joined DC before IPL 2019 and he has been with them since then. Axar has never captained an IPL team.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Rajat Patidar will make his captaincy debut in IPL 2025 and will lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Many expected Virat Kohli to make his return as captain but he will contonue to participate in the tournament as a specialist batsman.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Reigning IPL Champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will have a new captain in Ajinkya Rahane. Rahane captained Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2018 and 2019. He is making his return as a captain after 6 years. He has never won the IPL trophy.
Gujarat Titans
Shubman Gill will continue as the captain of Gujarat Titans (GT). Shubman replaced Hardik Pandya as GT's captain before IPL 2024. They failed to qualify for the second round of the tournament.
Mumbai Indians
Hardik Pandya will once again lead Mumbai Indians (MI). MI had a forgettable season under Hardik and they finished at the last spot in the IPL 2024 points table.
Rajasthan Royals
There is no change in Rajasthan Royals' (RR) captaincy and Sanju Samson will continue to lead them. Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal were RR's top retentions and they have a salary of Rs 18 crore each.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Pat Cummins will continue as the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Under him, SRH reached the final of IPL 2024, where they suffered a defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders.
