The final was held in Dubai instead of Lahore
The 2025 Champions Trophy was the first International Cricket Council (ICC) event hosted by Pakistan in 29 years, but the tournament proved to be bittersweet for the country as their national team failed to win a single match and ended up playing just one match on home soil.
The Mohammed Rizwan-led side lost their opening game to New Zealand before a defeat to arch-rivals India in Dubai. After being knocked out of the tournament, Pakistan was denied the chance to get a consolation win over Bangladesh in Rawalpindi as the game was washed out before the toss even happened.
Pakistan also lost the right to host the final as India qualified for the summit clash. The Men in Blue won the tournament unbeaten and recorded five victories in a row to lift the trophy for the second time outright and third time overall.
As India lifted their second ICC title in a row, they received praise from across the nation and the wider cricket fraternity. However, Pakistan fans were less than pleased as the Men in Blue were crowned champion. It is worth recalling that Pakistan were the defending champions coming into the tournament after lifting the title in 2017. India has won the title in two of the last three editions.

For those unversed, the tournament was played in a hybrid model as India refused to visit Pakistan for the event as they continued their stance of not travelling to the country due to security concerns. The Men in Blue have not visited the neighbouring nation since the 2008 Asia Cup due to the strained political ties between the two countries in the aftermath of the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai.
While India was scheduled to play all three league stage matches in Dubai and the first semi-final was also scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the final was allowed to be in Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium unless India qualified for the summit clash.
A major controversy erupted during the presentation ceremony as no Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official was present when Indian players were awarded their white blazers and the trophy.
