Virat Kohli Fit To Play 2nd ODI vs England (Source: PTI)
Virat Kohli is fit and raring to go in the second ODI against England, confirmed Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, according to Sports Express. It came as a big shock when Rohit Sharma at the toss during the first ODI confirmed that Virat Kohli would miss the game due to a knee injury, however, it has been confirmed that the injury was not serious and Kohli will be playing for India in the second ODI.
It is still not confirmed who Kohli will replace in the second ODI. It was assumed that India played Yashasvi Jaiswal in place of Virat Kohli, however, Shreyas Iyer dropped a bombshell after the first ODI and revealed it was him who was set to be left out of the playing XI had Kohli played.
Iyer made a statement and played a whirlwind innings of 59 in the first ODI, however, Yashasvi Jaiswal endured a failure. It will be interesting to see if India drop Iyer from the XI and go with their planned strategy for the first ODI, or they play Iyer and drop Jaiswal.
India are using the ODI series to test their best combination for the ICC Champions Trophy so there will be a few changes in the XI. Arshdeep was outstanding for India in the T20I series, but he wasn't given a go in the playing XI for the first game. When asked if Arshdeep would play the second ODI, Kotak said it is a call that will be taken by the captain and coach. "Shami is completely fit and for Arshdeep to get a chance, it's the call of captain and coach," said Kotak.
Another player who could get a go in the XI for the second ODI is Varun Chakravarthy. Varun was added to the ODI squad after his stellar run in the T20I series. India are mulling over taking Varun to Dubai for the Champions Trophy, but the team will try him in the ODI series before taking a call.
India are 1-0 up in the series after picking a four wicket win in the first ODI.
