KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Noman Ali wrote his name in the history books
  • Noman took a five-wicket haul in the first session
  • Noman narrowly missed Rangana Herath's world record
Noman Ali etched his name in the history books on Saturday (January 25) in a remarkable first session of play at the Multan Cricket Stadium in the second Test between Pakistan and West Indies as the visitor's decision to bat first after winning the toss spectacularly backfired.
After debutant Kasif Ali and Sajid Khan stuck early for the hosts, Noman came into the attack as the first change bowler and wreaked havoc over the West Indies batting unit. The 38-year-old took a wicket in his first over, and a little over an hour after play started in the first session, registered a hat trick to his name by taking the wicket of Justin Greaves (1), Tevin Imlach (0), and Kevin Sinclair (0) on the first three balls of the 12th over of the match.

Noman Ali Creates History

Noman Ali has become the first Pakistan spin bowler in history to take a hat-trick. He is only the fifth bowler from Pakistan to achieve the rare feat and marks only the sixth instance of a player from the country completing the treble. Noman is the fourth Pakistani player to achieve the feat at home. Noman is also the first Pakistan bowler to achieve the feat against a non-Asian country.

Noman has also become the second-oldest bowler (38 years, 110 days) to take a hat-trick in Test cricket history. He narrowly missed out on Rangana Herath's (38 years, 139 days) world record by just 29 days. Herath achieved the feat for Sri Lanka against Australia in 2016 at Galle with the wickets of Adam Voges, Peter Nevil, and Mitchell Starc.
Noman has been key to Pakistan's revival at home since making a comeback to the team for the second Test against England in October. Since October 2024, he has taken 30 wickets in just four matches (7 innings). He also won the ICC Player of the Month in October last year.
