India have lost the opportunity to seal a series win against England, as they slavaged a draw in the fourth match of the series at Manchester. They now trail by a megin f 1-2, and need to win the final match at The Oval to avoid a series defeat and secured a draw. This would be a good result for Shubman Gill in his debut series as a captain. However, there have been several shortcomings in the side in the past few months since Gautam Gambhir took charge, especially in Test Cricket. Now, it looks like Gambhir's backroom staff is set to undergo a massive change in personnel as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seemed to have lost patience after a string of unsatisfactor Test results.
According to a report by The Telegraph, the BCCI is all set to sack bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate, once they initiate a review at the end of the India vs England series. The duo may not be axed till the Asia Cup 2025 in September, because of time constraints. However, the changes will definitely take pace ahead of the next Test Series which is against West Indies at home in October.
Gautam Gambhir, however, will continue to stay as the head coach since BCCI does not want to change anything at the top, especially since the team is in transition.
Why Morne Morkel Is Under Scanner?
Morne Morkel has been under the scanner for some time now, but the decision to play Anshul Kamboj in the 4th Test vs England, who bowled at a speed of 120 km/hr with the new ball, seems to have confirmed his exit. The decision to not play Kuldeep Yadav has also raised many questions.
“The coaches always talk of balance but keeping a world-class wrist spinner like Kuldeep Yadav out has had disastrous consequences,” a source close to the proceedings informed The Telegraph.
