India kept themselves alive in the five-match Test Series against England, when they fought out a valiant draw in the fourth match of the series at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester, that too from a losing position. The series now stands 2-1 in favour of England with one more match to go. Even though they can't win the series, India will be looking to win the final match beginning from July 31 (Thursday) at The Oval. This will enable them to draw the series 2-2, which will be a great achievement for Shubman Gill's first assignment as Test captain. The skipper himself will be looking to chase a legendary record in this game.
Shubman Gill has been in sparkling form with the bat in the ongoing series against England. He has already slammed 722 runs in the series, thus becoming only the third Indian after Sunil Gavaskar and Yashasvi Jaiswal to hit 700 runs in a Test series. Now, if he scores 53 runs in the final Test of the series, then he will have 775 runs, thus becoming the batter with the most runs for India in a single Test series.
This record is currently held by the legendary Sunil Gavaskar, who scored 774 runs in the series against West Indies in 1970/71.
Here are the Indian players with the most runs in a single bilateral Test Series
Player Runs Opponent
Sunil Gavaskar 774 West Indies
Sunil Gavaskar 732 West Indies
Shubman Gill 722 England
Yashasvi Jaiswal 712 England
Virat Kohli 692 Australia

Shubman Gill Breaks Don Bradman's Record

Shubman Gill's ton in the third innings of the 4th Test, was his fourth century in this series. He is only the third captain in history to score four centuries in a series, after Don Bradman (Australia vs India, 1947) and Sunil Gavaskar (India vs West Indies, 1978).
However, Gill is the first captain to achieve the feat in an away series, thus breaking Bradman's record of scoring three centuries in the 1938 series against England in England.
