Shubman Gill is having a dream series against England. His leadership has been in question, and fair enough, given some shocking selection calls and defeats at Leeds and Lord's, but the captaincy seems to have brought out the best of him as a batter. The Indian skipper started the series with two centuries at Leeds and followed it up with a hundred in Birmingham. He suffered a rare failure at Lord's, but made a massive statement by scoring a hundred at Manchester. Gill came when India were 0/2, trailing England by 311 in second innings, and scored a magnificent 103 to put India in a position to save the Test. Later, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar scored hundreds on Day 5 as India drew the Test to stay alive in the series.

Gill Chasing Don Bradman's Record

Gill has shattered multiple records on the England tour, and he is not yet done. The Indian skipper is in line to break a massive Don Bradman record in the fifth Test. Gill has scored 722 runs in the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy and needs just 89 runs to break Don Bradman's 88-year-old record of most runs by a captain in debut series. Bradman scored 810 runs against England in 1937. With two innings left, Gill has a great chance to break the colossal record.

Shubman Gill's Record-Breaking Run

Meanwhile, Gill's magnificent run in England saw him break Yashasvi Jaiswal's record of most runs in a Test series against England. Jaiswal had scored 712 runs at home in the 2023/24 series. Sunil Gavaskar holds the record for most runs by an Indian in a Test series. Gavaskar scored 774 runs against the West Indies in 1970/71, and Gill has a great chance to claim the record in the fifth Test. The record for most runs as captain is again held by Gavaskar, who scored 732 runs against the West Indies, and Gill is very close to breaking the record.
The century in Manchester was Gill's fourth in the series, and he joined Don Bradman and Sunil Gavaskar in the list of most hundreds by a captain in a Test series.
