Joe Root didn't get off to a great start to the series against India, but he turned things around at Lord's with a brilliant hundred and followed it up with another stellar hundred in Manchester. Root's hundred at Old Trafford helped him leapfrog Jacques Kallis in the list of most runs in Test cricket, with only Sachin Tendulkar ahead of him.
Root has been one of the most consistent batters in the last few years, and given the consistency he has shown, Tendulkar's record of most Test runs looks in danger. Root will need a good two- three years to get near Tendulkar, but he can break a huge World Test Championship (WTC) record in the fifth Test.

Joe Root Nears Colossal Milestone

Joe Root has been unstoppable since the start of the WTC and is the leading run scorer of the championship, with 5946 runs. He has also scored 20 hundreds in the league - the most by any batter. If Root can score 54 more runs in the fifth Test against India at the Oval, he will become the first player in the world to score 6000 runs in the WTC.

Most Runs In WTC

Players Runs
Joe Root 5946
Steve Smith 4278
Marnus Labuschagne 4225
Ben Stokes 3616
Travis Head 3300

How Many Runs Does Root Needs To Surpass Tendulkar

Root has scored 13409 runs in 157 Test matches, and Tendulkar scored 15921 in 200 games. Root is 2513 runs away from leapfrogging Tendulkar's record of most runs. Root has about three years of cricket left in him easily, and if he can continue the form he has shown in the last few years, it would be inevitable that he doesn't surpass Tendulkar. Another Sachin record Root will target will be his 50 Test centuries feat. Root has scored 38 Test hundreds, and he needs 13 more to beat Tendulkar's record. Four centuries a year should not be tough for Root if he plays for 3-4 years.
