India suffered a close 22-run defeat in the Lord's Test. The visitors got very close to the 193-run target, but it didn't look like they'll get that close when they lost the eighth wicket at 112. Ravindra Jadeja was standing at one end, and he had Jasprit Bumrah for company. The pair showed great courage and fought against odds, adding 35 runs for the ninth wicket, and Bumrah playing over 50 deliveries.
There were some nervous faces in the England camp as the deficit came below 50, but Bumrah played a bad shot and lost his wicket. Then came Mohammed Siraj, dead batting everything that England threw at him. Jadeja at the other end kept the scoreboard ticking, getting India closer to the target. The partnership between Siraj and Jadeja reached 23.
Siraj was up against Shoaib Bashir, and he had two balls to face, but he got out in the most unfortunate way. He defended the ball well, but it rolled onto the boot and then to the stumps. He was down on his haunches after the wicket, and Ravindra Jadeja couldn't believe it either. There were glum faces in the Indian camp, and England were jubilant.
Jadeja remained not out on 72 and played one of the most courageous innings, but it was not good enough for a win.
Meanwhile, Bollywood actor Sonu Sood shared a heartfelt post for Bumrah, Siraj, and Jadeja after India's defeat, and it went viral on social media.
Meanwhile, Shubman Gill lauded the team for his effort, but rued dropped catches and lower-order collapses for the defeat.
"I think it was a brilliant Test match. We had our chances, we dropped catches and our lower-order didn't contribute enough, but proud of the team and overall a good effort. Yesterday we were thinking we were going to get around 430 and declare. Unfortunately our last 6 wickets scored only around 20-25 runs which is never a good sign. Even today after their brilliant opening partnership I felt we still had our chance but just didn't go our way in this match,: he said.
