India suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of England at Lord's. Chasing a target of 193, India fell short by just 22 runs. Thanks to Ravindra Jadeja's unbeaten half-century, India were crawling towards a win despite the lack of wickets. He added a crucial 35-run partnership with Jasprit Bumrah for the ninth wicket. Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj added 23 runs for the 10th wicket. Siraj, who played 30 balls, scored 4 runs. Bumrah scored 5 off 54 balls he faced.
Siraj got out in an unfortunate manner as the ball hit the stumps after a making contact with his bat. In most cases, the bails don't fall as the batsman only defended the ball. But in this case, the impact was enough for the bail to fall on the pitch.
Siraj was unmoved on the pitch following the dismissal as he did his best to spend ample time on the field and assist Jadeja. A couple of England players came to Siraj to console him.
IPL franchise, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) shared a 3-word post for the senior player and wrote: "Chin up, Siraj." Siraj has never been part of the Yellow Army in the T20 league.
India made a forgettable start to the chase of 193 as Yashasvi Jaiswal departed without opening his account. Karun Nair only managed to score 14 runs. Shubman Gill departed for 6 while night watchman, Akash Deep was dismissed for 1. India finished the fourth day at 58/4.
Rishabh Pant only managed to score 9 while KL Rahul departed for 39. Ravindra Jadeja, who came out to bat at number 7, remained unbeaten on 61 off 181 balls. Washington Sundar failed to open his account and departed for a duck.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, who came out to bat at number 9, scored 13 off 53 balls. Jadeja's efforts went in vain and the visitors suffered a 22-run defeat. England lead the five-match Test series 2-1.
