India suffered a heartbreaking defeat against England in the 3rd Test of the series at Lord's Cricket Ground. The Shubman Gill-led side suffered a 22-run defeat while chasing a target of 193. Mohammed Siraj was the last batsman to get dismissed. The ball made contact with the leg stump after hitting his bat. The impact was enough to dislodge the bails. Ravindra Jadeja, who faced 181 balls, remained unbeaten on 61. Siraj faced 30 balls and scored 4 runs.
Before Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah also spent ample time on the field. He batted for 54 balls and scored 5 runs. Bumrah, who made his return to the playing XI for the Lord's Test, took a five-fer in England's first innings. He followed up with 2 wickets in the second innings.
The former India vice-captain is only slated to play 3 Tests in the series. He has already played 2 Tests and wil only play one more game. Will Bumrah be part of the 4th Test in Manchester?
Captain Shubman broke his silence on it but didn't reveal whether Bumrah would be part of the final XI or not. "Extremely proud, as close as Test cricket gets. Pretty confident this morning, plenty batting left this morning, we needed a couple of partnerships in the top order, we couldn't do that, they played better than us. But there's always hope. Target wasn't massive, one partnership and back in the game. Jaddu very experienced, no messages, just wanted him and the tail to keep batting," Shubman said.
"Things turned quickly, last hour we could have applied ourselves better, and this morning they came up with plans. The series score doesn't reflect how we've played. You'll get to know soon (on Bumrah's availability)."
India won the second Test match despite Bumrah's absence. Arshdeep Singh, who is uncapped in Test cricket, could replace Bumrah in the final XI if he doesn't play the fourth Test. The penultimate Test of the series will be played in Manchester from July 23 to 27.
