India suffered a heartbreaking 22-run defeat at Lord's. India fought hard on the final day, but England were the better team and deservingly won the game. India started the day at 58-4, in a chase of 193, and lost Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Washington Sundar early. Nitish Reddy followed soon and India were reeling at 112-8.
It was speculated that the game could end soon, but India fought back. Ravindra Jadeja hung around with the tail and got India close. He added a 35 run partnership with Jasprit Bumrah, who showed great defence and played over fifty deliveries. After Bumrah's wicket, Mohammed Siraj held fort for the team and played 30 balls for four runs. Jadeja, meanwhile, reached his fifty. With just 23 runs to win, India's hopes saw daylight, but a very unfortunate dismissal saw England win.
Siraj defended brilliantly, but one of the deliveries hit his pad and rolled onto his stumps, leaving him, Jadeja, and all of the Indian fans heartbroken. Jadeja remained not out on 72. Siraj was down on his haunches after the bowled, and Jadeja couldn't believe it either. Coach Gambhir was also stunned in the dressing room after the wicket.

What Went Wrong For India?

India would have happily taken 193 to chase at the start of play, but the batters let them down. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and KL Rahul, who have been in great form, failed to score big. The target wasn't big and the pitch had no demons but it felt that the Indian batters were not sure how to go about the business.
The defeat would hurt India. They should have won the first Test as they dominated England for most part, but lost. Same was the case as Lord's where they played better than England, but suffered a defeat after a couple of bad sessions.
