Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have kicked off their preparations for IPL 2026 and appointed a new coach. The Hyderabad-based franchise has signed Varun Aaron as its new bowling coach. Aaron, who was once India's fastest bowler, will be coaching in IPL for the first time. The right-arm pacer announced his retirement from the game in January 2025. He played 9 Tests and as many ODIs for Team India. Aaron took up commentary following his retirement and is sharing his insights in the ongoing India-England Test series.
Aaron made his ODI debut during the home England series in 2011. He made his Test debut against West Indies a month later. Aaron played his last Test against South Africa in 2015. His final ODI appearance came against Sri Lanka in 2014.
Aaron is also an IPL winner. He was part of Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans (GT) which won the IPL 2022 trophy in their debut season. Apart from GT, Aaron played for Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals.
At SRH, Aaron will be working with the likes of Pat Cummins, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Shami, Simarjeet Singh and Jaydev Unadkat.
SRH's performance in IPL 2025
Cummins-led SRH had a forgettable run in IPL 2025 and they managed 6 wins from 14 matches. The Orange Army finished in the sixth position in the points table. SRH are expected to make some changes in their squad before the next season.
Cummins' future with SRH doesn't seem to be in doubt and he looks set to lead them in IPL 2026. Cummins-led SRH made it to the final of IPL 2024, where they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). KKR also failed to qualify for the second round of IPL 2025.
Rajat Patidar-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Shreyas Iyer's Punjab Kings in the final to lift the trophy for the first time.
