England assistant coach Marcus Trescothick does not mind a few heated exchanges between players during the England-India Test series. Tempers have flared between players in the series, especially in the third Test. Shubman Gill was involved in a fiery exchange with England opener Zak Crawley after he felt the batter intentionally wasted time to avoid facing an extra over on Day 3.
On Day 4, Mohammed Siraj gave Ben Duckett a fiery send-off before Ravindra Jadeja and Brydon Carse exchanged a few words on Day 5.
Trescothik said that cricket has become friendly because the players are together in franchise tournaments, so a few words here and there won't do any harm.
“Having that competitive edge definitely helps the situation. It helps the atmosphere in the series. Cricket has got a bit more friendly over the past few years because the players are together in franchise tournaments all over the world. Sometimes it’s good to create something in the game,” he said on Sunday as quoted by Indian Express.
“Both teams are passionate about playing the game, and it is understandable that at times it gets to a boiling point. There will be things that happen between the two teams, but both teams know there’s a line you can’t cross but it’s not really been troubled too much,” he added.
Meanwhile, the third Test is headed towards a thrilling finish. India started Day 5 at 54-4, but were soon reeling at 82-7 after Jofra Archer removed Rishabh Pant and Washington Sundar, and Ben Stokes picked KL Rahul.
Nitish Reddy and Ravindra Jadeja then stabilised the innings before Reddy fell at a team score of 112 on the last ball before Lunch. At the time of writing, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah were at the crease, stitching a crucial partnership. India have reached 140-8, just 53 runs away from the win.
