Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar hinted at a conspiracy against India after KL Rahul was dismissed LBW by Ben Stokes on the fifth day of play in the third Test match against India, in a moment that tilted the balance of the game in England's favour.
Rahul, who scored a century in the first innings, was holding fort for India in the 193 run-chase with a knock of 39. Stokes struck on Rahul's pad 24th over of the innings. While the on-field umpire ruled it not-out, England were quick to ask for a review.
The replays showed Stokes made the correct call and the ball was hitting the stumps.
However, Gavaskar was not in agreement with the Hawk-Eye call and questioned the ball-tracking technology. The ex-Indian captain recalled various DRS calls not falling in India's favour when the home team were batting.
"Surprisingly, this one didn’t bounce that much. When Indian bowlers were bowling, balls were going above the stump mostly in reviews," said Gavsakar.
" I am questioning the technology," Gavaskar replied to Michael Vaughan, who did not buy Gavaskar's argument.
Over recent days, the umpires and match officials have faced questions with several on-field decisions leaving the Indian team and former cricketers furious. Several decisions have been overturned by DRS, while a few umpire calls have landed in England's favour.
Talking about the match, England and India both put a total of 387 in the first innings, with centuries from Joe Root and KL Rahul respectively. Jasprit Bumrah took his second five-wicket haul of the series for India. He finished the match with seven wickets to his name.
In the second innings, England were bowled out for 192 with Washington Sundar taking a five-wicket haul. India lost four wickets before stumps on Day 4 while losing another three in the first session on Day 1.
