Rishabh Pant suffered a finger injury on the opening day of the Lord's Test match against England and only kept wickets for 35 overs. The wicketkeeper-batsman hurt his left index finger while collecting a delivery off Jasprit Bumrah's bowling. He walked off the field after getting hurt and was replaced by Dhruv Jurel. Dhruv is keeping the wickets in the second innings as well. Rishabh batted in the first innings and will be allowed to bat again without any delays.
Dinesh Karthik, who is doing commentary in the ongoing series, made a hilarious comment as he asked Rishabh to share something with Dhruv. "Rishabh Pant should share his match fees with Dhruv Jurel," the former India wicketkeeper-batsman said on the air.
The members of the final XI earn full match fees while those on the bench receive half of the amount. Dhruv has only played one Test match since Rishabh's return to the Test team. He was part of the final XI in the Perth Test against Australia.
Rishabh has never played a Test as a specialist batsman. But his streak could end in the fourth Test if he isn't fit to keep wickets. Rishabh can play as a specialist batsman if the team management wants.
He kicked off the England tour with back-to-back centuries. The India vice-captain has scored 416 runs across five innings so far. Shubman Gill (601) is the only batsman with more than 500 runs in the series.
England lead by 175 runs
England were 175 runs ahead of India at the time of tea on day 4. Both teams finished on identical scores of 387 after the end of their respective first innings. England would aim to set a target of more than 300 while India would want to restrict the home team below 250. The five-match Test series is levelled 1-1.
