Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) pacer Yash Dayal moved to the Allahabad High Court, seeking a stay on his arrest, days after he was booked by the Ghaziabad police for allegedly “emotionally, mentally, and physically” exploiting a woman after promising to marry her. Dayal was booked by police on Monday under section 69 (sexual intercourse by deceitful means, including a false promise of marriage) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after the woman filed a complaint through the Chief Minister’s online grievance portal (IGRS).
Before moving to the HC, Dayal had denied any physical relationship with the woman. Dayal, in his writ petition mentioned that the woman was treated like a daughter-in-law by Dayal's parents, which proves that his intention was never to cheat, adding that the attitude of the woman changed over time, and Dayal realised that he would not be able to marry her.
“… as per the FIR, it has been admitted by the informant that she was treated like a daughter-in-law by the parents of the petitioner, meaning thereby that the intention of the petitioner was never to cheat her… However, it was the attitude of the victim which changed over the course of time, and the petitioner realised that he would not be able to marry her; as such, he decided to end the relationship,” the writ petition by Dayal stated, as quoted by Indian Express.
Dayal further told HC that he never entered the relationship by promising her a false marriage. “It was a mutual friendship, which later on turned sour because of the victim herself,” the petition said.
In the FIR, the woman alleged that Dayal had a physical relationship with her after promising false marriage, adding that she went into depression and also attempted suicide.
Dayal, in his petition, said that he was bought by Gujarat Titans for 3.2 crore in IPL 2022, following which he got recognition, and the woman saw this as an opportunity to get close. “The victim saw this as an opportunity and started getting closer to the petitioner,” it read.
Dayal alleged that the woman repeatedly sent him pictures of her attempting suicide, and he was terrified by her threats.
