BCCI provided a huge update on Rishabh Pant before the start of the 2nd day's play of the Lord's Test match against England. The wicketkeeper-batsman suffered a blow to his left index finger while collecting one of the deliveries from Jasprit Bumrah. He was immediately attended to by the medical team. Rishabh left the field after the completion of the over and was replaced by Dhruv Jurel. Rishabh will stay off the field on the second and will not keep wickets.
"Rishabh Pant is still recovering from the hit on his left index finger. The BCCI medical team continues to monitor his progress. Dhruv Jurel will continue to keep wickets on Day 2," BCCI wrote on X.
This is the first time that Jurel is keeping wickets in Rishabh's presence in the playing XI. He has only played one Test since Rishabh's return to the Test team. Jurel played the Perth Test against Australia as a specialist batsman.
Rishabh, who made his Test debut in 2018, has never played a Test as a specialist batsman. He has always kept wickets when he is in the playing XI. Rishabh is the present vice-captain of the Test team.
Jasprit Bumrah strikes thrice early
Jasprit Bumrah struck thrice early on the second day of the Lord's Test and dismissed Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes. The right-arm pacer bowled captain Stokes for 44 off 110 deliveries in the 86th over.
Two overs later, Root inside-edged the ball back onto the middle stump. He got Chris Woakes on the very next delivery to leave England reeling at 271/7. Bumrah missed out on a well-deserved hat-trick.
He is just one wicket away from taking his maiden five-fer at Lord's. He is playing his second Test at the iconic venue. Bumrah is likely to be rested for the fourth Test match.
