To prepare better for his first Test cricket tour of England, Nitish Kumar Reddy made use of his connections in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Reddy had a decent outing during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, which earned him a spot in the England series as well. He therefore understood that if he wanted to keep his place in the team, he had to do better during the England tour. Reddy asked his Sunrisers Hyderabad captain, Pat Cummins, for advice regarding the conditions in England before the series. Cummins went on to tell Reddy how important the weather is in England.
“I just asked him (Pat Cummins, his captain at Sunrisers Hyderabad) what's the difference between Australia and England since this is my first tour and he said that it's not going to be like a change but you watch about the weather conditions and just play your game,” Reddy said in the post-day press meet.
“You will get to know because obviously I am going to play two India A tour two games, so he said just try to learn as much as you can and you will get on there,” he added.
Reddy delivered with the ball and provided India with opening breakthroughs. He dismissed openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett in the same over. Reddy also revealed having an in-depth chat with India bowling coach Morne Morkel as well.
“I have had chats with Morne as well. We are seeing good progression in my bowling, and I am really enjoying working with him,” he added.
Reddy said that after the Australia tour, he promised himself that he would get better at bowling, and on Thursday, the medium pacer did demonstrate that he had improved his bowling skills. Reddy had bowled 44 overs in the five-match series in Australia (2024–25), but he had bowled very little in the IPL before the England tour, which raised doubts about his all-around skills. However, Reddy put the opposition on the defensive on the first day of the third Test here by dismissing England openers Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley in his opening over.
“After Australia tour, I felt like I have to improve my bowling and consistency is what I look to achieve," he said.
