The fate of the Asia Cup 2025 will reportedly be decided during the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting on July 25-26 in Dhaka. The tournament is likely to get underway on September 5, with India and Pakistan set to clash on September 7. However, India's participation is not confirmed yet as the BCCI will seek approval from the Indian government before playing Pakistan.
For the unversed, India-Pakistan ties hit a new low following the Pahalgam attack, and speculations were rife that India may boycott playing Pakistan in global events. But, recent development suggests that India may soften their stance and continue playing Pakistan in ICC events and the Asia Cup. The reports of boycotting Pakistan were rubbished by BCCI secretary Devajit Saika himself.
"Since this morning, it has come to our notice some news items about BCCI's decision not to participate in the Asia Cup and Women's Emerging Teams Asia Cup, both ACC's events. Such news is devoid of any truth as till now, BCCI has not even discussed or taken any such steps regarding ensuing ACC events, let alone written anything to the ACC," BCCI secretary Devajit Saika said as quoted by news agency PTI.
According to a report by Gaurav Gupta of the Times of India, BCCI vice president Rajiv Shukla will represent India in the ACC meet, where a final call on the Asia Cup will be taken.
Meanwhile, the schedule for the 17-day-long Asia Cup is almost finalised, and the final of the tournament will be played on September 21. Reportedly, the tournament will be played in two phases - the group stage and the Super 4s in a T20 format. If India and Pakistan both qualify for the Super 4s, the fans can witness multiple India-Pakistan matches in the Asia Cup.
India are the host of the Asia Cup, but it is very likely that the tournament will be moved out of the country to an alternate venue, with the UAE the front runner to host the tournament.
