Goldberg is set to retire from in-ring action after his match against Gunther at the Saturday Night's Main Event. The WWE Hall of Famer will challenge Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. Since Goldberg is on his way out of WWE, he is expected to put over the champion in his farewell match. It will be interesting to see how the storyline pans out if Goldberg shocks the WWE Universe by winning the title. The match will take place on July 12.
Ahead of his retirement match, Goldberg has made a huge reveal and claimed that he missed the first retirement call from WWE. The WWE legend didn't pick up the first call from Triple H. He only picked up the call when he received another call from the same number for the second time.
"And yeah, I mean, I’m out on my tractor mowing, you know, our acreage and I get a phone call from New York and it’s an unknown number — well, it’s an unknown number for me — and I didn’t pick up. And then I picked up the second time, and lo and behold, it was Mr. Levesque," Goldberg told Shak Wrestling.
"So, I’m appreciative of the opportunity and also appreciative that they gave me more than three weeks to prepare for it."
As Goldberg has revealed in the past, he was only given three weeks to prepare for his match against Roman Reigns, which took place in February 2022. He had 9 months to prepare for his match against Gunther.
Goldberg made an appearance at Bad Blood 2024, which took place in October, to kick off his storyline with Gunther. WWE teased a future match between them back then and it is taking place in July. Gunther lost his title to Jey Uso at Wrestlemania 41 but regained it 51 days later.
