Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the latest phenom of Indian and world cricket, has already become a fan favourite for his dazzling knocks in the IPL earlier this year as well as in the U-19 series against England most recently. And the craze around him refuses to die down. The stylish 14-year-old left-handed batter already owns a couple of stunning records, including being the youngest to hit a century in the IPL and the fastest Indian to do so. In youth cricket against England, he smashed a 52-ball hundred, notching up the record for the fastest hundred in youth cricket - breaking Sarfaraz Khan's decade-old record.
After his brilliant performance in the U-19 youth ODI series, which helped India seal a 3-2 win, the southpaw is now gearing up for the Youth Test series, which begins on July 12 at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham. Even before the start of the two-match Youth Test series, Suryavanshi is in the spotlight again - this time, due to a heartwarming fan moment.
Such is the craze for the cricketer from Bihar that two girls, Aanya and Rivaa - both claiming to be big fans of Suryavanshi - endured a six-hour road trip to Worcester just to meet him. What made the incident even more poignant was that both girls wore Rajasthan Royals’ pink jerseys - Vaibhav’s IPL team. Rajasthan Royals posted the photographs of their meeting on X, formerly Twitter. The two fans met Suryavanshi, clicked photographs with him, and cheered passionately for both him and the Indian team.
The India U-19 team ended their five-match youth ODI series in England with a 3-2 win, despite losing the fifth ODI by seven wickets. Even in defeat, Vaibhav remained in the spotlight. He scored a gritty 33. Earlier, India sealed the series with a 3-1 lead after a dominant 55-run win in the fourth ODI. Suryavanshi's 52-ball hundred came in that fourth youth ODI. He was eventually dismissed for 143 off 78 balls.
