Novak Djokovic set a new record on Wednesday, advancing to his 14th Wimbledon semi-final after overcoming Italy’s Flavio Cobolli in a gripping quarter-final clash.

With his 6-7 (6/8), 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 win, Djokovic surpassed Roger Federer’s previous record of 13 semi-final appearances at the prestigious grass-court event.

The Serbian tennis star, who is eyeing his 25th Grand Slam singles title, now prepares for a highly anticipated semi-final against world number one, Jannik Sinner.

The match marks another milestone in Djokovic’s illustrious career, extending his dominance at Wimbledon where he has reached the final every year since 2018.

In a match filled with tension, Djokovic was challenged by Cobolli, who showed early promise with a varied game plan that included aggressive groundstrokes and deft drop shots.

Despite dropping the opening set in a tense tie-break, Djokovic quickly regained his composure, breaking Cobolli twice in the second set to level the match. The third set saw both players exchange service breaks, but Djokovic capitalised on a key moment, sealing the set with a powerful ace.

The fourth set remained competitive until Cobolli, under pressure, failed to convert a straightforward net winner in the ninth game.

Djokovic, who briefly faltered after slipping during his final service game, recovered to clinch the win, sending Cobolli home and securing his spot in a historic 14th semi-final.

The victory not only extends Djokovic’s record of most semi-finals at Wimbledon but also marks his 52nd Grand Slam semi-final, a record in men’s tennis.

With Sunday’s final now within reach, Djokovic is poised to tie Margaret Court for the most Grand Slam singles titles if he claims another victory.

Awaiting Djokovic is a formidable opponent in Sinner, who recently defeated him in straight sets at the French Open semi-finals.

Meanwhile, in the other half of the draw, Carlos Alcaraz will face fifth-seeded Taylor Fritz in Friday's semi-final.
