Shubman Gill-led India bounced back strongly in the second Test of the five-match series and won the fixture by 336 runs to level the series 1-1. Captain Shubman scored 269 while Ravindra Jadeja hit 89 as India put on a total of 587 on the board. Shubman slammed a century in the second innings as India scored 427 in the second innings. India bowled out England for 271 in the final innings of the game to register their first-ever win at Edgbaston.
Shubman's twin tons in Edgbaston saw him equal Virat Kohli's record and he is just one century away from overtaking him in an elite list. Virat, who played 28 Tests against England, has 5 centuries against them.
Shubman has already slammed 5 tons against the Three Lions in 12 Tests. Just one more century will see him overtake Virat in the list of batsmen with the most centuries in India-England Test series.
Joe Root tops the list of batsmen with most Test tons between the two teams. He has 10 Test tons against India. He is followed by Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Alastair Cook. All these legends hit 7 centuries each in matches between the two teams.
Kevin Pietersen and Mohammad Azharuddin share the third spot. They hit 6 centuries each. Rishabh and Shubman have 5 centuries each. Rishabh will also pip Virat in the elite list when he scores his next Test century against England.
The wicketkeeper-batsman has already slammed 2 centuries in 4 innings in the ongoing series. He kicked off the series with scores of 134 and 118. Rishabh hit 25 and 65 in the second Test match.
The third Test of the series will be played at Lord's from July 10 to 14. The team winning that game will take a 2-1 lead. India haven't won a Test series in England since 2007.
